Basketball Game Preview: Pensacola Tigers vs. West Florida Jaguars

Pensacola and West Florida are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Pensacola Tigers take on the West Florida Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pensacola is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Pensacola was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 49-45 to Escambia.

Despite the defeat, Pensacola saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Khylen Eccles went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Eccles a new career-high in boards. Jamarcuz Fountain was another key player, putting up ten points and five assists.

Meanwhile, West Florida was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 60-56 to Fort Walton Beach. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

West Florida's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Pensacola, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.

Pensacola came up short against West Florida in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 62-58. Can Pensacola avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
