The El Modena Vanguards will challenge the Pacifica Mariners at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Pacifica took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on El Modena, who comes in off a win.
El Modena took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Cypress, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vanguards won by a run and slipped past the Centurions 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vanguards have posted since April 15, 2025.
Jules Vega spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jillian Alvarado, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Pacifica didn't have quite enough to beat La Habra on Thursday and fell 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Mariners have lost by just one run.
Pacifica also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Raquel Pineda gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Jenna Valladares made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Pacifica's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8. As for El Modena, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Modena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Pacifica struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Modena was able to grind out a solid victory over Pacifica in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, winning 8-5. Do the Vanguards have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mariners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
