The Goshen Warriors will face off against the Hillsboro Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Goshen's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Batavia as they made off with a 6-0 win.
Not much got past Kenzie Durbin, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Batavia off the board. Durbin has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Charlize Schulz and Josie Purdy did most of the damage at the plate: Schulz went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Purdy went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits Schulz has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Macee Stelle, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Goshen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Westfall.
Camryn Spruell was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Spruell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Isabelle Brunck was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Addie Huff, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Hillsboro's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Goshen, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Both Goshen and Hillsboro just can't seem to miss. The Warriors have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Hillsboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
