Football Game Preview: Summit Academy Bears vs. Judge Memorial Catholic Bulldogs

Summit Academy is a perfect 8-0 against Judge Memorial Catholic since September of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bears will host the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Summit Academy has given up an average of 29.1 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Summit Academy fought the good fight in their overtime contest against South Summit on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 41-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. Despite 66 more yards than the Wildcats, the Bears couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Summit Academy might have lost, but man, Preston MacKowiak was a machine: he threw for 472 yards and five TDs while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt. MacKowiak's passing game has become a key predictor of the Bears' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Liam Larson handled things on the ground, rushing for 85 yards.

Even if they lost, Summit Academy's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Tug Wilbur was the leader with two. He has been hot recently, having also posted eight or more total tackles the last four times he's played.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Judge Memorial Catholic's offense. They were outmatched by Layton Christian Academy and fell 56-0. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Summit Academy now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Summit Academy skirted past Judge Memorial Catholic 20-17 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bulldogs' Texas Wilde, who rushed for 144 yards and one score while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bears to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
