Volleyball Recap: Southside Falls Short of Conway in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Southside couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Conway Wampus Cats on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mavericks of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2023.

Southside's loss came despite strong showings from Harper Hogue and Julia Suggs. Hogue had 15 digs and two aces, while Suggs had 16 assists and six digs. Suggs is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 15 or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Conway was led to victory by Braylin Merritt and Olivia Frazier. Merritt had 27 digs and two aces, while Frazier had 13 digs and ten assists. Those 13 digs gave Frazier a new career-high. Haven Sellers also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 22-9-1. As for Conway, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 28-5.

Southside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Conway, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Bentonville on the 29th.
