Roma is 0-8 against Mission Veterans Memorial since October of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Gladiators will square off against the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Roma ended up a good deal behind Sharyland and lost 48-31.
Roma's loss came about despite a quality game from Jorge Tamayo, who rushed for 100 yards on only 12 carries, and also threw for 68 yards and one TD. Tamayo got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 56 yards.
Meanwhile, Mission Veterans Memorial never let their opponents score on Friday. They really took it to Alice for the full four quarters, racking up a 47-0 victory. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 23 points or more this season.
Roma better keep an eye on Roman Reyna. He was instrumental in Mission Veterans Memorial's win, rushing for 107 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries, while also throwing for 103 yards and one touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mission Veterans Memorial's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Cuauhtemoc Labastida was the leader with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. Quinten Valverde got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The win was the fourth in a row for Mission Veterans Memorial, bringing their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.8 points over those games. As for Roma, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
We should be in store for an exciting game as Roma and Mission Veterans Memorial have no problem gaining yardage. The Gladiators have been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 382.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Mission Veterans Memorial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 394.2 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Roma might still be hurting after the 35-14 loss they got from Mission Veterans Memorial in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Gladiators were down 21-0.
