The Greensboro Day School Bengals will challenge the Calvary Day School Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Greensboro Day School has three straight wins, Calvary Day School has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Greensboro Day School beat Cornerstone Charter 7-3.
The team relied heavily on Trevor Waters, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Cooper Braxton was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Greensboro Day School hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Calvary Day School came up short against Wesleyan Christian Academy on Friday, falling 13-6.
Patrick Reynolds was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Kaden Christian was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season.
Greensboro Day School's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Calvary Day School, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greensboro Day School has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Calvary Day School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Greensboro Day School came out on top in a nail-biter against Calvary Day School when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will Greensboro Day School repeat their success, or does Calvary Day School has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
