Preview: Black River Pirates vs. Keystone Wildcats
Black River is 2-8 against Keystone since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Black River Pirates will be playing at home against the Keystone Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
Last Friday, Black River took a serious blow against Columbia, falling 60-31.
Despite the defeat, Black River got a solid performance out of Paige Kaltenbaugh, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds. Madison Jenkins was another key contributor, scoring 3 points along with 8 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Keystone entered their tilt with Brookside with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Keystone blew past Brookside 66-27 at home. Given Keystone's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Brookside is ranked 352nd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Keystone can attribute much of their success to Brooklyn Barber, who scored 24 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Jessica Forthofer, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 1-1 season records intact.
Black River ended up a good deal behind Keystone when the teams last played back in January, losing 51-35. Can Black River avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
