Gaylord is 9-1 against Petoskey since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will square off against the Northmen at 4:00 p.m. Gaylord will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Gaylord is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Michigan's top teams: Dakota, who was ranked second at the time (Gaylord was ranked sixth). The Blue Devils walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Cougars on Saturday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Petoskey). They were the clear victors by a 24-3 margin over Big Rapids on Friday. The Northmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.
Jordan Malec made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Petoskey got a massive performance out of Alexis Cadarette, who went 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Cadarette has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Bre VerCautren was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
Petoskey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Gaylord pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Petoskey, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 25-3.
Everything went Gaylord's way against Petoskey in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, as Gaylord made off with a 15-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
