Softball Recap: Summerfield Comes Up Short

After flying high against Bastrop last Friday, Summerfield came back down to earth. The Rebels fell 6-2 to the Captain Shreve Gators on Monday. The Rebels have struggled against the Gators recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Melanie Salmon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Summerfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aniston Cupp, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Summerfield's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Captain Shreve, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 20-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summerfield will take on Booker T. Washington-Shreveport at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Captain Shreve, they will face off against Logansport at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
