Baseball Recap: Gillespie Wins Going Away Against Vandalia

Gillespie barely beat Vandalia the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Miners put the hurt on the Vandals with a sharp 7-1 win on Friday. The Miners haven't had any issues with the Vandals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Brody Shaw spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up six Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Gillespie's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dawson Lancaster, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Luke Schuckenbrock, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

The win got Gillespie back to even at 5-5. As for Vandalia, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Gillespie is taking a road trip to face off against Pana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vandalia, they will be playing at home against Central A & M at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
