Basketball Game Preview: Music Mountain Warriors vs. Pinon Eagles

The Music Mountain Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Pinon Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Music Mountain is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 58 points on Saturday, they were much more limited against Williams on Tuesday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 50-24.

The losing side was boosted by Elizabeth Walema, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 18 points. The contest was her third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Arian Butler, who made all 9 shots she took from beyond the arc to post 3 points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Pinon suffered their biggest defeat since November 21, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Tuba City and fell 80-34. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Warriors are ranked 13th).

Music Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Pinon, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Music Mountain was dealt a bruising 63-26 loss at the hands of Pinon in their previous meeting back in January. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Music Mountain was down 35-15.
