Football Game Preview: Standish-Sterling Panthers vs. Reed City Coyotes

The Standish-Sterling Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Reed City Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Standish-Sterling beat Pinconning 20-8. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won six in a row.

Among those leading the charge was Joel Bellor, who rushed for 63 yards and one TD on only six carries, and also threw for 33 yards and one touchdown.

Standish-Sterling's run defense was locked in: Pinconning could only muster 1.9 yards per carry. The Panthers' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 2.7 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 4.4 on average over their last five games.

Meanwhile, Reed City didn't have too much trouble with Hopkins on Friday as they won 21-7. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Coyotes' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Vikings are ranked 250th).

Reed City's record now sits at 6-2. As for Standish-Sterling, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

Standish-Sterling came up short against Reed City when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 41-32. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
