Recap: Wake Forest Cougars vs. Leesville Road Pride

The Wake Forest Cougars waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Leesville Road 59-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

It was another big night for Chiquora Miles, who scored 29 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Audra Hillman, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Leesville Road lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Molly Zuburg, who scored 11 points along with seven steals and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Motunrayo Balogun, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Leesville Road were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wake Forest only racked up six assists.

Wake Forest is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for Leesville Road, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wake Forest will take on Knightdale at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Knightdale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Monday. As for Leesville Road, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Broughton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Broughton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 301st, while Leesville Road is ranked 91st).
