Baseball Recap: Cheektowaga Comes Up Short

Cheektowaga extended their losing streak to 12 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Shore Eagles. The Chargers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Rico Garcia was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jerromy Gonzalez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run.

Lake Shore's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-9. The game was the first time they have beaten Cheektowaga on their field since April 25, 2022.

On Lake Shore's side, they got a great performance from Jack Jarzynski as he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Jarzynski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dominick Lagattuta was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Keegan Green, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lake Shore beat Cheektowaga by a score of 10-2 later that day.
