Softball Recap: Columbia Central Takes a Loss

Columbia Central made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hanover-Horton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Comets by a score of 5-3 on Friday. That makes it the first time this season the Golden Eagles have let down their home crowd.

Hailey Wetherby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Columbia Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Knapp, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Columbia Central's defeat dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Hanover-Horton, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Columbia Central is set to face off against their familiar foe Grass Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Golden Eagles 2, the Warriors 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Hanover-Horton will challenge rival Napoleon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
