Softball Recap: Willows Comes Up Short

Willows might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was Corning who claimed the real prize. Willows wound up with the same score they had in their last game (6-5), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Kimberly Garrison was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Gabi Cano was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Alisha Christy was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Willows now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Corning, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.

Willows didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-4 victory against Paradise on the 25th. As for Corning, they have also already played their next game, a 9-4 defeat against Los Molinos on the 25th.
