Softball Recap: Los Osos Grizzlies vs. Chino Hills Huskies
After flying high against St. Lucy's last Wednesday, Los Osos came back down to earth. The Los Osos Grizzlies fell just short of the Chino Hills Huskies by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Los Osos of the 8-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture on April 9th.
Abigal Merchant was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Merchant has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Merchant was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, and a double.
Merchant wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Estep, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kira Cooper, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
On Chino Hills' side, they got a great performance from Laci Trevino as she struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Kyler Del Duca was incredible, going 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Leilani Allen, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Los Osos has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16-1 record this season. As for Chino Hills, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-10.
