Softball Preview: Thornton Fractional North Meteors vs. Oak Lawn Spartans

Thornton Fractional North has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Oak Lawn Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Thornton Fractional North will be strutting in after a victory while Oak Lawn will be coming in after a loss.

Thornton Fractional North never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Hawks out 12-11. Considering Thornton Fractional North's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jimena Jimenez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up eight earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Jimenez was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Thornton Fractional North got a big performance out of Stephanie Montiel, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Alayna Cain-Brown was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, Oak Lawn unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Reavis by a score of 6-5.

Natalie Orozco was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with a home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jess Carey, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double.

Thornton Fractional North's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Oak Lawn, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4.

Thornton Fractional North might still be hurting after the 21-0 loss they got from Oak Lawn in their previous matchup back in April of 2023.
