Softball Recap: Port Edwards Blackhawks vs. Almond-Bancroft Eagles

Port Edwards had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it seven. They lost 19-1 to the Almond-Bancroft Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.

As for Almond-Bancroft, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by nine runs or more this season.

For Almond-Bancroft's part, Lexi Carlton looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Carlton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Almond-Bancroft got a massive performance out of Tia Dernbach, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kerstyn Clark, who went 1-for-3 with five RBI and two runs.

Port Edwards has already played their next contest (against Amherst), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Almond-Bancroft, they will take on Wittenberg-Birnamwood at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
