Former high school player of the year, Rasheed Wallace joins high school rankings in North Carolina.
The 16-year NBA veteran will follow in the footsteps of other former NBA players to find success in the coaching ranks, highlighted by Penny Hardaway's rise to the Division I level after his stint at Memphis East (Memphis, Tenn.).
Wallace is originally from Philadelphia, where he went to high school at Philadlephia Public League power
Simon Gratz. He led the school to three Public League titles and a 31-0 record during his senior season in 1993.
Simon Gratz was named mythical national champions by USA Today, Street & Smith and Parade Magazine among others, while Wallace earned player of the year honors by the same outlets. Wallace finished his high school career with 1,690 career points before going on to attend the University of North Carolina.
Wallace was announced as head coach of a Durham high school the day before a big game between his North Carolina Tar Heels and bitter rival Duke, which calls Durham home.
The 44-year old Wallace will have some work to do in his first season as Jordan finished the 2018-19 season with a 7-17 record.
The four-time All-Star is the NBA's all-time leader in technical fouls, which adds another interesting layer to his transition to the bench.
