Baseball Recap: Mitchell Victorious

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Mitchell and Bloomfield, and Mitchell kept the tradition alive. The Bluejackets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bluejackets have posted since April 25, 2024.

Gavin Martin made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Martin was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

Martin wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Conner Teague, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those two hits gave Teague a new career-high. Bryson Zeeks was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

The win got Mitchell back to even at 1-1. As for Bloomfield, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mitchell is headed away from home for the first time to take on Springs Valley at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bloomfield, they will head out to challenge Evansville Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
