Baseball Recap: Blackstone Valley Prep Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Blackstone Valley Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against the North Smithfield Northmen on Thursday as they made off with a 9-2 victory. This was payback for the PRIDE, who suffered an 11-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Noah Ferreira made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Blackstone Valley Prep is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-5 otherwise. Ferreira was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Blackstone Valley Prep let Alex Torres and Adrian Fernandez Jimenez run wild. Torres went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple, while Fernandez Jimenez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Blackstone Valley Prep is 3-1 when Torres posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Yilberto Florian Tavares, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Blackstone Valley Prep now has a winning record of 7-6. As for North Smithfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blackstone Valley Prep will venture away from home to challenge Paul Cuffee at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Blackstone Valley Prep is facing Paul Cuffee at the right time seeing as Paul Cuffee is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for North Smithfield, they are taking a road trip to take on Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
