Baseball Game Preview: Tokay Tigers vs. Manteca Buffaloes

The Tokay Tigers will challenge the Manteca Buffaloes at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tokay will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

It was a proper cat-fight when Tokay duked it out with Weston Ranch on Saturday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 15-5 victory. Considering the Tigers have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Conner Preap spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tokay let Ryan Oliveri and Brock Sell run wild. Oliveri scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Sell scored four runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Sell is becoming a predictor of Tokay's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 7-2 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Noah Van Dyke, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Manteca came up short against Central Catholic on Friday and fell 5-1. The Buffaloes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Tokay's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-9. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Manteca, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.

Tokay skirted past Manteca 6-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buffaloes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
