Baseball Recap: Riverdale Takes Down Desert in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Riverdale had no problem doing just that on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Desert Scorpions a 6-0 shutout.

Not much got past CHARLIE COX, who gave up just five hits to keep Desert off the board. COX has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Riverdale let ALEJANDRO SOLORIO and CARLOS CABRERA run wild. SOLORIO went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while CABRERA went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. SOLORIO has become a key player for Riverdale: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 9-16 otherwise. Another player making a difference was EMMANUEL BOJORQUEZ, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Riverdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Riverdale is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-16 record this season. As for Desert, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-13.
