Preview: Highlands Owls vs. Jefferson Mustangs
Highlands is on a three-game streak of home losses, Jefferson an 11-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Highlands Owls will take on the Jefferson Mustangs at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Highlands will be strutting in after a victory while Jefferson will be coming in after a loss.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Highlands beat Edison 35-29. The win was just what Highlands needed coming off of a 70-32 loss in their prior game.
Jefferson suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were beaten by Alamo Heights 77-14. While losing is never fun, Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1326th, while Alamo Heights is ranked 250th).
Highlands' win bumped their record up to 7-25. As for Jefferson, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost 19 of their last 20 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-25 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Highlands against Jefferson in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 55-24 win. Does Highlands have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jefferson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
