Basketball Game Preview: Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons vs. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs

The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons will take on the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs in a tournament on Monday. The timing is sure in Wilcox-Hildreth's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home while Sumner-Eddyville-Miller has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Wilcox-Hildreth is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Franklin: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Wilcox-Hildreth blew Franklin out of the water with a 54-26 final score. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Flyers are ranked 254th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wilcox-Hildreth to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Bunger, who posted 21 points. That's the most points Bunger has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cara Bunger, who put up 13 points.

Meanwhile, it looked like the Kentucky Derby when Sumner-Eddyville-Miller took on Amherst on Thursday. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller had to suffer through a 65-26 loss at the hands of Amherst. The Mustangs were down 46-23 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Wilcox-Hildreth will have to contain Jaycelyn Hoos as she made an impact in Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's last game. She went 6 for 10 on her way to 17 points and eight rebounds. That was a full 65.4% of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Wilcox-Hildreth is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
