Basketball Recap: Pinson Valley Takes a Loss

Pinson Valley's last matchup with Gainesville could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Saturday. The Indians lost 56-36 to the Red Elephants. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 30th in Alabama, while the Red Elephants are ranked first in Georgia).

Despite the defeat, Pinson Valley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Taylen 'Tay' Johnson went 6-for-15 en route to 19 points. Jalen 'JP' Pritchett was another key player, putting up nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Pinson Valley and nudges their season record down to 6-3. As for Gainesville, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Pinson Valley will take on Gadsden City in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The Indians will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. Gainesville and North Hall will compete for holiday cheer at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
