Baseball Game Preview: Berea Pirates vs. Lee County Bobcats

The Berea Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the Lee County Bobcats at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Berea will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Berea came out on top against Burgin on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Pirates have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nate Parke spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Nathan Prophitt was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tommie Banderman, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Berea was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lee County fell victim to Breathitt County and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 11-0 to Breathitt County. Lee County has struggled against Breathitt County recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Berea's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Lee County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Berea came out on top in a nail-biter against Lee County when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 11-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
