Softball Recap: Wayne Victorious

Wayne won the last time they faced Fleming County and things went their way on Friday too. The Pioneers came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 9-4.

Kaliah Merritt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Wayne let Averi Napier and Lexi Blankenship run wild. Napier scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Blankenship went 2-for-4 with four RBI. That's the most RBI Blankenship has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Copley, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Wayne's record now sits at 4-6. As for Fleming County, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wayne will face off against East Carter at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fleming County, they will take on Grant County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
