Softball Recap: Kirtland Central Wins Going Away Against Atrisco Heritage Academy

Kirtland Central was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Atrisco Heritage Academy on Friday. Kirtland Central put the hurt on Atrisco Heritage Academy with a sharp 11-1 win.

Rory Benally made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kirtland Central got a massive performance out of Tamirra Chee, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double. Chee has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssah Etcitty, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2.

Kirtland Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

Kirtland Central's record now sits at 6-7. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3.

Kirtland Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-11 victory against Cleveland on the 29th. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-5 defeat against Cibola on the 28th.
