Basketball Recap: Fort Dorchester Comes Up Short

Fort Dorchester was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. Their2024 ended with a 66-52 defeat against the Hiram Hornets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Patriots came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 98th in South Carolina, while the Hornets are ranked 380th in Georgia).

Despite the loss, Fort Dorchester saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maurice Cannon posted 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cannon has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maricious Dawson, who put up 12 points.

Fort Dorchester's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Hiram, they moved to 5-9 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Fort Dorchester will square off against Woodland at 5:30 p.m. on January 4th. As for Hiram, they will challenge St. Andrew's at 5:30 p.m. on January 4th.
