There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Among the action were the efforts of St. Paul's's senior Jack Mashburn, an offensive menace who scored five total TDs.
Welcome
Say hello to Newman: the team broke into the power rankings at the 22nd position after its notable last-week performance. It had all the answers against Riverside Academy, winning 41 - 14. The Riverside Academy defense has struggled this season (giving up an average of 33 points per game), and Newman took advantage of that.
Can't Touch This
St. Paul's's 72 - 7 win over Ponchatoula last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Jack Mashburn. Mashburn rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns. That performance made Mashburn one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
No Stoppin 'Em
John Curtis Christian was the better team in every quarter against St. Augustine last week and consequently the better team overall. Everything went John Curtis Christian's way against St. Augustine as it secured a 58 - 22 win. Two standouts for John Curtis Christian were junior Collin Guggenheim and junior Corey Wren; the former earned two touchdowns and 112 yards rushing the ball while the latter ran for 148 yards and also punched in two touchdowns. At 80 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Brother Martin (9th in the power rankings) and Archbishop Rummel (3rd). Archbishop Rummel is backed by a win while Brother Martin is motivated by a recent defeat. Brother Martin has never lost back-to-back this season, but Archbishop Rummel hopes to show it that there is a first time for everything.
