Recap: Douglass Astros vs. Sandy Creek Patriots

The Douglass Astros lost against the Sandy Creek Patriots back in November of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Douglass was just a hair shy of victory and fell 22-21 to Sandy Creek. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Douglass in their matchups with Sandy Creek: they've now lost four in a row.

John Wilson and Kenyon Stocker certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Wilson threw for 179 yards and a touchdown, while Stocker picked up 65 receiving yards and a touchdown. Stocker was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 65 yards.

Amari Latimer was on fire for Sandy Creek: he rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.0 yards per carry. Chase Mcdowell and his 80 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Sandy Creek's win.

Sandy Creek's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Evan Harvey and his two sacks.

Douglass' loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Sandy Creek, their win was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-3.

Douglass will head out on the road to face off against Oconee County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Oconee County is ranked 143rd, while Douglass is ranked 165th). As for Sandy Creek, they will be playing at home against Monroe Area at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Darrion Manuel and Latimer.
