Another season of Northern California basketball has come and gone with triumph for some and tears for others. We saw some great basketball played throughout the region, but here are the individuals that stood out and made the biggest impression.
MaxPreps 2013-14 All-NorCal Basketball Teams
Player of the Year: Ivan Rabb, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), 6-foot-10, Jr.The San Francisco Chronicle Player of the Year powered the top-ranked team in Northern California to a 28-5 record and the CIF Open Division NorCal title before falling to national No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) in the CIF State Open final. The No. 1-rated junior in the country with scholarship offers from Arizona, Connecticut, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky, among others, Rabb averaged 25 points, 16 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Coach of the Year: Nick Jones, Monte Vista (Danville)A Mustangs alum, Jones surrounded himself with coaches he could lean on, including his father and those who coached him years ago. With an all-senior starting lineup, Monte Vista went 32-1 and won North Coast Section, NorCal and CIF State Division I titles. Teamwork and defense defined the team.
FIRST TEAM
G Jordan Ford, Folsom, 6-0, So.The Sacramento Bee's Player of the Year, Ford led Folsom from a 12-win season a year ago to a 32-3 record this season, including winning the Delta River League title, the Sac-Joaquin Section and NorCal D-II crowns before falling to St. John Bosco (Bellflower) in the state finals. Ford averaged 22.7 points, and he went for 19 of his 25 in the fourth quarter to rally past Serra (San Mateo) in a semifinal.

G Frankie Ferrari, Burlingame, 6-0, Sr.With a name to match his fast-forward game, Ferrari led the Panthers to a 26-5 record, into the Central Coast Section D-III playoffs and into the NorCal D-III postseason. The USF signee averaged 22.4 points, 7.1 assists and 5.7 rebounds in earning San Francisco Chronicle Peninsula/South Bay Player of the Year honors.
G Paris Austin, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), 5-11, Jr.The playmaking floor leader for the Dragons, Austin averaged 20 points in the playoffs and helped his team win North Coast Section and NorCal D-III championships.
F D.J. Wilson, Capital Christian (Sacramento), 6-8, Sr.The finest player in the history of the program, the Michigan-bound Wilson averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots a game for the Cougars, who won the Sac-Joaquin Section D-V title and lost to O'Dowd in the NorCal Open finals.
F Temidayo Yussuf, St. Joseph Notre Dame (Alameda), 6-7, Sr.A four-year player, Yussuf was part of four NorCal title teams and two state-title groups, including this season. Headed to Long Beach State, Yussuf won games inside
and with 70-foot heaves.
SECOND TEAMG Trevor John, Monte Vista (Danville), 6-3, Sr.The leader for the state-champion Mustangs and headed to Cal Poly, John was deadly from outside and could play defense, too. He averaged 15 points for the school's finest team in earning San Francisco Chronicle Contra Costa/Tri-Valley Player of the Year honors.

Alex Van Dyke, Cosumnes Oaks

G Jiday Ugbaja, Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco), 6-0, Sr.Headed to Sacramento State, Ugbaja averaged 18.4 points for a program that competed in the Bay Area's best league in the West Catholic Athletic League and powered a run to the D-III NorCal finals.
G Trevor Dunbar, St. Ignatius (San Francisco), 5-10, Sr.Quick and prolific, Dunbar was named the West Catholic Athletic League Player of the Year, in part for spearheading two wins over champion Mitty (San Jose) in earning San Francisco Chronicle City Player of the Year honors.
F Alex Van Dyke, Cosumnes Oaks (Elk Grove), 6-4, Sr.A UCLA football signee at receiver, Van Dyke powered inside for the Wolfpack, averaging 18.5 points and 10 rebounds. Cosumnes Oaks reached the Sac-Joaquin Section and NorCal D-II finals, falling to Folsom.
F Cameron Oliver, Grant (Sacramento), 6-8, Sr.A versatile talent headed to Oregon State, Oliver could score from three-point range, on post plays and with thunderous dunks. He averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds.
THIRD TEAMG Tyrell Alcorn, El Cerrito, 6-0, Jr.Explosive and tough on defense, Alcorn averaged 16.1 points and 8.3 points for a Gauchos team that went 28-5 and lost to O'Dowd in the North Coast Section D-III playoffs and to Mitty in the NorCal Open playoffs.

G Joey Frenchwood, Newark Memorial, 6-1, Sr.A four-year starter who helped his team win 98 games and three successive North Coast Section D-II titles, Frenchwood could score inside and out. Newark lost to Modesto Christian in the NorCal Open playoffs.
G Gabriel Vincent, St. Mary's (Stockton), 6-3, Sr.Perhaps the most dynamic scorer in Rams history, the UC Santa Barbara-bound Vincent averaged 23 points for a 27-2 team that lost to Cosumnes Oaks in the playoffs. He was named the Stockton Record's Player of the Year.
F Jesse Hunt, Drake (San Anselmo), 6-6, Jr.The leader for a team that made the most improbable NorCal title run, Hunt averaged 17.7 points and 10.1 rebounds, and he went for 38 and 10 to beat top-seeded Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco) in the NorCal D-III playoffs. Drake won the NorCal title in posting a 26-8 season.
C Spencer Rust, Monte Vista (Danville), 6-8, Sr.A force inside on offense and defense, Rust averaged 15.3 points and 3.5 blocked shots for a team that went 32-1 and won section, NorCal and State D-I titles.
FOURTH TEAMG Jalen Coates, Burbank (Sacramento), 5-8, Sr.As quick as any guard in NorCal, Coates earned MVP honors in the ultra-tough Metropolitan Conference, averaging 20.5 points. A Sacramento Bee All-Metro player, he was named the Sacramento Optimist All-Star game South MVP.

G Vasilije Saraba, Del Campo (Fair Oaks), 6-6, Sr.Versatile, prolific and driven, Saraba could score on the run, pass or bomb from three-point range as Sacramento Bee All-Metro performer.
F Lake Lutes, Jesuit (Carmichael), 6-7, Sr.The leader for a Marauders team that won the Sac-Joaquin Section D-I title, Lutes was a Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick who averaged 18.7 points. He is headed to Air Force.
F Chiefy Ugbaja, Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco), 6-5, Sr.A San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro pick, Ugbaja averaged 16.1 points and 8.3 rebounds for a team that reached the NorCal D-III finals.
F Elliot Smith, Freedom (Oakley), 6-5, Sr.The leader for a team that caught fire in the playoffs, Smith led his upstart program to a school-record 26-6 mark, including beating Jesuit in the NorCal semifinals before falling to Monte Vista in the finals.
