Baseball Game Preview: Poplar Springs Atomics vs. Malone Tigers

The Poplar Springs Atomics will take on the Malone Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Things were looking good for Poplar Springs after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Altha, falling 13-3. The Atomics have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meetings.

Landen Gammons was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Gammons wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dakota Owens, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Mason Howell also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Malone lost 21-2 to Sneads on Tuesday.

Poplar Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Malone, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Poplar Springs has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Malone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
