Avon has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. Having just played yesterday, they will head out on the road to face off against the Falmouth Academy Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th. One thing working in Avon's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Avon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They pulled ahead with a 62-61 photo finish over Upper Cape Cod RVT. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Josiah Guerrier, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and seven blocks. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Thomas Edwards, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Falmouth Academy was handed a two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Rising Tide on Friday. Falmouth Academy blew past Rising Tide 57-23 on the road. That looming 57-23 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Falmouth Academy yet this season.
Avon's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0. As for Falmouth Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Everything went Avon's way against Falmouth Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as Avon made off with a 56-36 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Avon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
