The Knox Redskins will head out to challenge the North Newton Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Knox is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Knox managed to slip by Winamac the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Redskins came up short against the Warriors on Friday, falling 10-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Redskins were not able to get on the board.
Knox saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Jensen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Jensen's first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Newton). They put the hurt on Frontier with a sharp 19-2 victory on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Spartans with their most commanding win of the season.
Sydney Rainford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylynn Klemz, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was June Busboom, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
This is the second loss in a row for Knox and nudges their season record down to 5-6. As for North Newton, their record is now 4-1-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Knox has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. However, it's not like North Newton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Knox beat North Newton 6-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
