Basketball Recap: Kosciusko Picks Up Tenth Straight Win at Home

Kosciusko entered their tilt with West Lowndes on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They took down the West Lowndes Panthers 61-44. Given the Whippets' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Panthers are ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kosciusko's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cory Guyton Jr led the charge by going 7 for 12 on his way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaybre Pierce, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals.

Kosciusko smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Kosciusko's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. As for West Lowndes, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

As for West Lowndes, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the West Lowndes Panthers take on the Ethel Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Lowndes is facing Ethel at the right time seeing as Ethel is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
