Baseball Game Preview: West Mifflin Titans vs. Laurel Highlands Mustangs

For the second straight game, West Mifflin will face off against Laurel Highlands. The Titans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Mifflin has eight straight victories, Laurel Highlands has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

West Mifflin barely beat Laurel Highlands the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Titans blew past the Mustangs 11-3 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Jake Martina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, James Moneck was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Caden Wills was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

West Mifflin's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Laurel Highlands, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
