Baseball Recap: Independence Gets the Win

Independence's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They never let the Garfield Heights Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 23-0 victory. Considering the Blue Devils' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Ryan Suhy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anderson Jolliffe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Vinny Carriero, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Independence's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Independence and Garfield Heights will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Blue Devils will challenge rival Trinity at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Garfield Heights is set to square off against their familiar foe Shaw at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
