Basketball Recap: Independent Takes a Loss

Independent was the 58-35 winner over Conway Springs when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Independent Panthers were outmatched by the Conway Springs Cardinals and fell 46-16. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Cardinals are ranked 96th).

Macie Hartman was a one-woman wrecking crew for Conway Springs as she posted 17 points and seven rebounds. Those 17 points gave Hartman a new career-high. Lanie Hartman also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Independent is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5-1. As for Conway Springs, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Independent has already played their next matchup, a 73-18 loss against Hays on the 20th. As for Conway Springs, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Kingman at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th.
