Softball Game Preview: James Logan Colts vs. Granada Matadors

The James Logan Colts will take on the Granada Matadors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. James Logan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

James Logan fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Amador Valley on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dons by a score of 10-8. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Colts, who until this match were averaging 3.25 runs allowed.

Naliyah Orozco was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Ava Medellin was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Granada didn't have quite enough to beat Carondelet on Thursday and fell 3-2.

Delaney Aumua made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Granada's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for James Logan, they moved to 12-3-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Granada's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: James Logan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. It's a different story for Granada, though, as they've only averaged .355. Will they be able to contain James Logan's hitters?

James Logan skirted past Granada 5-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
