Baseball Recap: Saugatuck Sets Scoring Season-High Against Fennville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Saugatuck). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Fennville Blackhawks a 15-0 shutout on Saturday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trailblazers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Cass Stanberry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Saugatuck's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Holden Burd was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Saugatuck: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Norm Bos, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Saugatuck kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

Saugatuck moved to 11-12 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Fennville, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Blackhawks beat Saugatuck by a score of 12-8 later that day.
