Basketball Game Preview: Weldon Chargers vs. Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars

The Weldon Chargers will head out on the road to square off against the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Weldon has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Rocky Mount Prep will arrive with three straight wins.

Last Friday, Weldon had to suffer through an 87-43 loss at the hands of Wilson Prep. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 598th, while the Tigers are ranked 148th).

Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Prep hadn't done well against KIPP P recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Rocky Mount Prep managed an 85-80 victory over KIPP P. That's two games straight that the Jaguars have won by exactly five points.

Rocky Mount Prep's win came from a few key players Weldon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Trey'Von Nicholson, who posted 17 points. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Qualique Jones, who earned 17 points.

Weldon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Rocky Mount Prep, their record is now 8-11.

Weldon came up short against Rocky Mount Prep in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 77-70. Can Weldon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
