Basketball Recap: Portledge Takes a Loss

Portledge lost against St. Anthony back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Sunday. The game between the Portledge Panthers and the St. Anthony's Friars didn't end well, with the Portledge Panthers falling 71-53. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 524th, while the Friars are ranked 33rd).

St. Anthony's was led to victory by Ouse Ninche and Steven Aulicino. Ninche went 7 for 11 en route to 15 points, while Aulicino went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. Those 15 points gave Ninche a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyheem Mills, who posted nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Portledge and nudges their season record down to 1-7. As for St. Anthony's, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portledge will venture away from home to take on Albany Academy for Boys at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. Anthony's, they will head out to challenge Chaminade at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
