Baseball Recap: Chambers Comes Up Short

Chambers extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-16. They lost 17-0 to the Mallard Creek Mavericks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-0 on Monday.

As for Mallard Creek, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-10. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Mallard Creek's part, JeHue Alston made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Alston has become a key player for Mallard Creek: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 8-9 otherwise. Alston was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lenton Williams and Colin McCartney did most of the damage at the plate: Williams got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while McCartney went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Williams is becoming a predictor of Mallard Creek's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 2-9 when he doesn't). Stephen Scott was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chambers will square off against Ashbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Greenwave have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Mallard Creek, they will challenge Hough at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
