Preview: Angleton Wildcats vs. Fort Bend Kempner Cougars
The Angleton Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Fort Bend Kempner Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
While it was all tied up 7-7 at halftime, Angleton was not quite Magnolia West's equal in the second half on Friday. Angleton fell just short of Magnolia West by a score of 10-7. Having soared to a lofty 49 points in the game before, Angleton couldn't push the score so high this time.
Despite the defeat, Angleton got a solid performance out of Elijah Simmons, who rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown. Simmons really tore up the turf during one magnificent 71-yard run.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Fort Bend Kempner, who are still winless after their ninth match. Their tough 49-27 defeat to Terry on Saturday might stick with them for a while.
Despite the loss, Fort Bend Kempner had strong showings from Grayson Green, who threw for 285 yards and four touchdowns, and Mario James, who picked up 112 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Angleton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Fort Bend Kempner, their loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9.
Everything came up roses for Angleton against Fort Bend Kempner when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 45-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Angleton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
