Basketball Recap: Clear Creek Takes a Loss

Clear Creek played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Estes Park Bobcats, falling 62-38. The Golddiggers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Clear Creek lost, don't look at Zephyrus Schuessler. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points along with eight boards and five assists. That was a full 52.6% of Clear Creek's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Wyatt Huff was another key player, putting up four points and four steals.

Estes Park found their leader in sophomore Phineas Smith, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 18 rebounds. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Powell, who put up 14 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Clear Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Estes Park, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season.

Clear Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-27 loss against Heritage Christian on the 24th. As for Estes Park, they will square off against Flatirons Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Estes Park is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season.
