Baseball Game Preview: Copper Canyon Aztecs vs. Desert Edge Scorpions

The Copper Canyon Aztecs will take on the Desert Edge Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Copper Canyon will be strutting in after a win while Desert Edge will be coming in after a defeat.

Copper Canyon's tournament run continued when they took on Cactus last Thursday. Copper Canyon put the hurt on Cactus with a sharp 10-2 victory.

Copper Canyon let Anthony Acosta Livas and Dariany Flores run wild. Acosta Livas scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Flores went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Acosta Livas has posted since back in March of 2024. Nicholas Encinas was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Copper Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cactus only posted an OBP of .333.

Meanwhile, Desert Edge fell victim to Centennial and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Coyotes, falling 13-0. The Scorpions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Desert Edge's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Copper Canyon, the win got them back to even at 1-1-1.

Copper Canyon suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Desert Edge in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Copper Canyon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
